Some stuff to ponder about (taken from a Sept 22 newspaper article):
Have comfortable Singaporeans become blind to the inequities around them?
Are we voicing out enough??
....."a lot of resources" have been given to help gifted students who "don't really need as much help as those who cannot even function as a normal human being".I guess it boils down to the fact that we are all so used to having someone (a representative) voice out for us.
[Mr. Brown]
He also urged individuals to speak up for what they care about, instead of relying on others to do so. .......... "You are responsible for speaking up for things that you care about.
And also, when we witness social injustice, are we voicing these issues out?
Or are we simply desensitized to the various things happening around us because we are living in relative comfort?
......When you don't seem to see anything happening,Are we numbed because we believe our views would never be heard?
you think that everything is ok.
"When nobody voices an issue most people are aware of, then it seems that things are peaceful".....
Or are we just afraid to share our views because we have been taught to shut up and listen?
Are we worried to speak up because we might be deemed irrelevant or immature?
Or are we simply cut off from sharing because that's the way things should be?
Because authority can never be questioned?
Or perhaps, we don't question because questioning brings about contradictions and conflict, and these disrupts society because it forces people to step out of their comfort zones to look at injustices and alternative social issues straight in the face.
